Introduction: Truth on Trial—Literally
Every day, whether we recognize it or not, we encounter the implications of truth. From the classroom to the courtroom, from the news cycle to our family dynamics, the question of truth is ever before us.
Let’s bring this home with a scenario:
You’re sitting in a courtroom, not as a juror or spectator—but as the defendant. You’ve been wrongly accused of a crime you didn’t commit. Your entire future—even your life—hangs in the balance.
A witness is called to the stand.
Do you want them to share how they feel about you?
Do you hope they’ll offer their personal perspective or opinion?
Or do you want them to tell the truth—plain, raw, unfiltered truth?
The answer is obvious.
Because in that moment, nothing but truth will do.
1. Why Truth Still Matters
Truth is not a luxury reserved for philosophers or theologians. It is a necessity for justice, integrity, and salvation.
“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.” — Exodus 20:16 (TLV)
“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:32 (TLV)
When truth is lost or redefined, freedom becomes fragile, justice becomes perverted, and relationships become shallow. Truth is the foundation of moral clarity and societal order.
But here’s the problem: society is increasingly post-truth. That means facts are less persuasive than feelings, and perception is elevated above reality.
2. The Numbers Don’t Lie: A Disturbing Trend
According to the American Worldview Inventory 2023, a national survey analyzing biblical and competing worldviews:
- Only 63% of Americans identifying as Born Again Christians believe God is the basis of all truth—down 6%from 2020.
- Even more shocking: only 48% of those same believers affirm that Jesus lived a sinless life—down 14% from just three years earlier.
These are not statistics about the general population. These are numbers from those who claim allegiance to Yeshua the Messiah—who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6).
This data reveals a growing crisis of truth within the Body of Messiah. If even believers are beginning to question foundational truths about God and Scripture, we must ask:
What will the next generation believe—if we don’t act now?
3. Truth Is Not Optional—It’s Eternal
Truth is not a cultural construct. It is not a feeling. It is not “your truth” or “my truth.” It is God’s truth, revealed through His Word and embodied in His Son.
“The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous rulings is everlasting.” — Psalm 119:160 (TLV)
“Yeshua said, ‘I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” — John 14:6 (TLV)
When the Church loses its grip on truth, it loses its grip on identity, mission, and authority. And when society dismisses truth, lawlessness fills the void (2 Thessalonians 2:10–12).
This is why now, more than ever, we must be:
Ready to speak boldly in love in a truth-hostile world
Grounded in Biblical Truth
Equipped to discern deception

Conclusion: Truth for Life and Eternity
Truth is not an abstract ideal. It is the difference between justice and injustice, clarity and confusion, life and death.
What we believe about truth determines how we live—and where we spend eternity.
“For this reason I was born, and for this reason I came into the world—so that I might testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth hears My voice.” — John 18:37 (TLV)
