A Family on Mission: Living Out the Great Commission Together

Matthew 28:19–20 | John 6:27 | Matthew 4:4

I was just thinking…

In a time when families are often pulled in countless directions—school, work, sports, media—it is beyond important that we come together around what matters most: the mission of Adonai.

One of the most powerful ways to make the Word of Yahweh practical in everyday life is to live it out together. Yeshua’s call in Matthew 28 was not only for rabbis and pastors, or missionaries far away—it was for all believers:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, immersing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Ruach ha-Kodesh (Holy Spirit), teaching them to observe all I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
— Matthew 28:19–20, TLV

Discipleship doesn’t just happen overseas. It begins in the home. And one of the best ways to strengthen the spiritual bond of your family is to serve together—united in purpose, grounded in the Word, and plugged into a mission that reflects the heart of Messiah.

Families That Serve Together, Grow Together

We are not just called to believe—we are called to build. As a family, when we join hands to serve, give, and love, we fulfill Yeshua’s words. And there are many ways to do this practically:

🫓 Feed the hungry
👵 Care for widows and orphans
🤝 Visit the imprisoned
🙏 Pray for the nations

All of these are acts of Kingdom compassion that reflect the heart of God (James 1:27; Isaiah 58:7–8). But even these must flow from our highest calling: to make disciples of all people. Yeshua reminds us in John 6:27:

“Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.”

We serve meals, yes. We meet needs, yes. But we also offer living bread—the Word that comes from the mouth of Adonai. Because only Yeshua saves. Only He sustains. Only He gives eternal life.

Your Family’s Mission This Year and in The Years to Come

As you consider your family’s spiritual goals, let this be part of your journey:
Plug into a mission together.

Whether local or global, through prayer or participation, ask the Lord what vineyard He is calling your family to tend this year. To help guide you, I Was Just Thinking Ministries will be highlighting a mission, every now and again, that you can pray into and support.

📍MISSION SPOTLIGHT: The 10/40 Window & Joshua Project

Did you know that the largest concentration of unreached people groups lives within a rectangular region of the world between 10° and 40° north latitude?

This area—known as the 10/40 Window—includes parts of North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Billions live here. Most have never heard the Good News of Yeshua even once.

That’s why the Joshua Project exists.

“Joshua Project is a research initiative seeking to highlight the ethnic people groups of the world with the fewest followers of Christ. Revelation 5:9 and 7:9–10 show that there will be some from every tribe, tongue, nation, and people before the Throne.”
— JoshuaProject.net

📍 These are real people. Real souls. Many live in places where the cost of following Jesus is persecution or even death. And yet, the Word promises that some from every nation will stand before the Throne.

Your family can play a part in that prophecy.

💬 Take the Next Step as a Family

Here are a few ideas to begin:

  1. Pray daily for unreached people groups—especially those in the 10/40 Window.
  2. Visit the Joshua Project and learn about the people groups still waiting to hear the Gospel.
  3. Adopt a people group to pray for regularly as a family.
  4. Support a missionary or mission project serving in one of these regions.
  5. Talk as a family about how you can be more intentional in your neighborhood, school, and workplace to be disciple-makers where you are.

Final Thought

The Kingdom of God is not built on spectators. It’s built on surrendered people who say, “Here I am, Lord—send me.”And sometimes, that sending starts around the dinner table, in the car ride to the synagogue or church, or in a family conversation about what really matters.

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
— Matthew 4:4

May your family feed on the Word, walk in the Spirit, and answer the call of the Great Commission—together.
